Morecambe Offshore Windfarm receives development consent for Transmission Assets and progresses towards design and delivery
September 14, 2026 – Copenhagen, Denmark and London, United Kingdom
Transmission Assets for the Morecambe Offshore Windfarm have received development consent approval by the UK’s Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. This milestone not only finalises development consent for the entirety of the Morecambe project, but it also marks a significant moment for over half a million UK households as another new source of renewable, home-grown energy will come online.
Holly Cartwright, CEO of COP UK and Ireland said: “We are pleased to receive development consent for the transmission assets for the Morecambe project. The Secretary of State’s decision follows many years of development and engagement with local stakeholders and the community, a commitment we continue to uphold as the project advances. On behalf of the Morecambe team, we look forward to supporting the UK’s Net Zero ambitions and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels by providing a significant new source of reliable, home-grown energy.
We want to thank stakeholders and the local community, who have taken part in the independent examination process and who have provided valuable feedback throughout. This has helped us develop and refine our plans to ensure the best possible set of proposals. We are now looking forward to entering the next phase of the project and are committed to keep working closely with communities to ensure this development is brought forward in a way that not only minimises impacts on those communities but creates genuine lasting benefits.”
The Morecambe Offshore Windfarm is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), who acquired the project in 2025, taking full ownership from Cobra Group and Flotation Energy. Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), the exclusive offshore wind development partner to CIP, leads development and construction for Morecambe, with Flotation Energy continuing as a key development partner.
Development consent for Morecambe’s Transmission Assets follows development consent for the project’s Generation Assets in the east Irish Sea in December 2025. Transmission Assets consent was simultaneously granted to the Morgan Offshore Wind Project, a separate offshore wind farm located in the east Irish sea and designed to connect to the National Grid substation alongside Morecambe at Penwortham. Morgan Offshore Wind Project is not owned by CIP or developed by COP.
The Morecambe project will continue to engage with local stakeholders and supply chain partners across the local, UK and global markets, while keeping communities informed as the project progresses through the next stages of design and delivery.
