Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), a leader in offshore wind origination, development and construction in new and established markets around the world, has expanded its presence in Europe and opened a new office in Porto, Portugal. The new office will support COP’s ambitions to unlock offshore wind in the country, including early market assessment and development activities for the proposed 2GW Nortada floating offshore wind project off the coast of Figueira da Foz, which is positioned to be the first large-scale offshore wind farm in the country. COP is currently developing a 50GW global offshore wind portfolio, of which more than 40 percent accounts for floating projects.

January 17, 2023 – Copenhagen:

Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), a world leader in development and construction of offshore wind projects, will co-lead project development activities for a 2.2 GW portfolio of offshore wind projects located off the east and southeast coasts of Ireland.

The portfolio is jointly owned by Statkraft A/S and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), following the announcement of CIP’s 50% acquisition stake in the portfolio, on behalf of its fund Copenhagen Infrastructure IV K/S (CI IV). As the exclusive development partner to CIP, COP will co-lead project development for the portfolio with Statkraft.

The 2.2 GW portfolio includes four early to mid-stage offshore wind development projects in the Irish Sea. The projects involved are the North Irish Sea Array, or NISA, and the Bore Array with a combination of fixed bottom and floating offshore foundations.

Commenting on the future development potential and CIP’s acquisition, Alan Hannah, partner at Copenhagen Offshore Partners said, “This is a significant and exciting moment for COP as it will establish our business in a new market and strengthen our position in North-West Europe as we continue to target emerging opportunities.  Given our track record and expertise, I am confident that COP will be a major force in developing the Irish market’s renewable energy potential over the long term, while also creating significant economic opportunities for Ireland’s economy.”

The projects are expected to be among the first commercial scale offshore wind projects in Ireland with commercial operations expected to commence in 2028.

The Irish Government has set a 2030 target of 7GW of installed offshore wind requiring rapid deployment and delivery of the currently most mature development projects, which includes the 500MW flagship project in the portfolio, North Irish Sea Array I (NISA I). NISA I is eligible to bid into the Irish Government’s first Offshore Renewable Electricity Support Scheme auction (ORESS) in 2023.

The Irish portfolio adds to the greater 50GW portfolio of projects of which COP is leading project development activities on behalf of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. CIP is the world’s largest dedicated fund manager within greenfield renewable energy investments and to date has raised Euro 19 billion from more than 120 international institutional investors worldwide.

Offshore wind development leader establishes footprint in Aotearoa New Zealand to support pre-development activities and growth of early stage market.

January 12, 2023 – Copenhagen:

Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) has opened a new office in Wellington, New Zealand, growing the group’s presence across the Australia and New Zealand regions, which includes an office in Melbourne, Australia.

Led by COP Australia & New Zealand CEO, Charles Rattray, the new Wellington office was officially opened in late 2022 and will support COP’s ambitions to unlock offshore wind in the country, including development of a project in South Taranaki off the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. The project is being developed on behalf of a joint venture between New Zealand Super Fund and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners

“We are proud to establish our local footprint in Aotearoa New Zealand and to support the country’s renewable energy ambitions. The South Taranaki region has great potential for offshore wind development given shallow water depths, promising wind resources, and synergies to establish a local supply chain.”

Offshore wind development leader establishes Hamburg office in response to robust national targets and market possibilities.

In response to rapidly growing offshore wind and renewable energy ambitions across European nations and the need for experienced developers to drive projects forward, Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) has expanded its presence on the continent with a local office in Hamburg, Germany.

The new location will host a growing team and development activities focused on supporting both Germany’s 70 GW offshore wind targets by 2045 as well as other market opportunities across the region.

“Germany is one of the most mature offshore wind markets in Europe and yet it continues to have very ambitious buildout plans,” said Keld Bennetsen, Head of Commercial and European Development Lead at Copenhagen Offshore Partners. “Our Copenhagen Offshore Partners team has deep experience in the North Sea region, and we are excited to do our part to help local leaders realize their renewable energy vision in light of new climate and economic realities in Europe.”

Global offshore wind development leader expands project pipeline in Asia following Taiwan Round 3 Zonal Development Offshore Wind Auction win.

Taipei, Taiwan – December 30, 2022

Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) will lead project development activities for the 500 MW Fengmiao offshore wind project which will be located approximately 35km off the coast of Taichung in central Taiwan.

The news follows from an announcement that the Fengmiao project, owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its fund Copenhagen Infrastructure IV (CI IV), has been awarded capacity in the first round of Taiwan’s Round 3 Zonal Development Offshore Wind Auction with grid connection in 2027. CIP is the world’s largest dedicated fund manager within greenfield renewable energy investments.

As the exclusive offshore wind development partner to CIP, COP will develop the Fengmiao offshore wind farm with construction works expected to commence in 2025 and commercial operations expected for 2027.

COP has led offshore project development activities for CIP projects in Taiwan since 2017, including the 595MW Changfang and Xidao offshore wind farms and the 298MW Zhong Neng offshore wind farm in partnership with China Steel Corporation (CSC), which are both under construction and anticipated to meet commercial operation dates scheduled in 2024 and 2025. New Project CEO to lead 1.5 GW floating offshore wind pipeline in Korea, coming from fifteen year career delivering major energy infrastructure in Oceania.

November 14, 2022 – Ulsan, Korea:

Today, Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) announced the expansion of their leadership team in Korea with the hire of Jonathan Spink as Vice President and Ulsan Project CEO.

In his role, Spink will oversee COP’s 1.5 GW pipeline of floating offshore wind projects in Ulsan, Korea. Following a successful award for the project’s Electricity Business License earlier this year, COP and the project team in Korea are now focused on development, engineering, and procurement as well as preparation for the Ulsan Project’s Environmental Impact Application (EIA).

Spink stated, “COP has a strong history of offshore wind globally and is well positioned to play a major growth role as the world rapidly shifts to green energy sources. I’m excited to be joining the team in Korea as the new Vice President and CEO of the Ulsan Projects.”

Spink joins COP with 15 years of experience in the delivery and leadership of major energy infrastructure projects. In the last several years, he has been looking after the development, delivery, and operations of wind, solar, BESS and pumped hydro assets for an Australian renewable business with an operating portfolio of 665MW and over 2GW in development. Spink is a mechanical engineer by training with a degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia and he is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

COP moves to a new Hanoi office, celebrates the signing of two strategic supply chain MOUs and local collaboration agreement, and advances the energy dialogue at Denmark-Vietnam sustainability summit.

November 11, 2022 – Hanoi, Vietnam:

Last week, Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) took several important steps to advance offshore wind development in Vietnam. COP celebrated the relocation and opening of a new Hanoi office, located in the capital’s Hoan Kiem district. Since first establishing its Vietnam footprint in 2019, the COP team has grown to nearly 20 employees. The new office will play an important role to provide the best ground to show its strong vision and continued commitment to contribute to the development of the offshore wind industry in Vietnam, where COP is developing the 3.5 GW La Gan Offshore Wind Project in Binh Thuan for its exclusive partner, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). La Gan is projected to be the first and largest offshore wind project in Vietnam and it is part of the group’s multi-gigawatt offshore wind portfolio across both north and south Vietnam.

COP also celebrated the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to support the build out of a Vietnamese offshore wind supply chain through COP and CIP’s future projects. The MoUs were signed by CIP and include an offshore substation supply agreement with PTSC MC and Semco Maritime, as well as an agreement for construction port usage at Vinh Tan with Pacific Corporation. COP also signed a collaboration agreement with Xuan Cau Holdings looking at the development of offshore wind projects in North Vietnam.

These agreements, signed as part of a Royal visit to Vietnam by Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess of Denmark to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Danish-Vietnamese diplomatic relations, will help support local job creation and economic development in Vietnam’s growing renewable energy sector, key tenets of COP’s approach to successful offshore wind development around the world.
