A groundbreaking day for Copenhagen Offshore Partners and for Offshore Wind!

Posted on: November 19th, 2021 by Yiannis Koutsoupas No Comments

November 18th, was a big day for the Vineyard Wind 1 project in the US. Federal and state leader broke ground at the site at Barnstable for the nation’s first commercial-scale 800MW offshore wind project.

A great selection of Federal, State and Local leaders were present at the event with US Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and Governor Baker of Massachusetts as the most prominent speakers. Lars Pedersen, Rachel Pachter and Klaus Møller led the representation from the COP and Vineyard Wind 1 team, CIP was represented by CIP senior partner Christian Skakkebaek and CIP US Partner Henrik Tordrup.

Loud praises go to the team at Vineyard Wind 1 – “There will only be one team that builds the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, and that’s this team” said Lars to the sound of a loud ovation. This is not only a historic day in America’s transition to clean energy but will also create more than 3.600 new jobs and 400.000 homes will get clean power from thew project.

The day finally came, it took some time, but we did it! Lars remembered in his speech Gov. Baker in 2018 saying something with the effect of “don’t screw it up” . In any case, It’s safe to say we didn’t!

Congratulations to the whole COP team at Vineyard Wind 1! We are very proud and will celebrate your efforts all over the globe.

Meet our very first Graduate in the COP Graduate Program

Posted on: October 11th, 2021 by Yiannis Koutsoupas No Comments

Copenhagen Offshore Partners consists of highly dedicated experts, most of whom have 10+ years of experience from developing and constructing large-scale offshore wind projects. We have a diverse workforce and therefore also employ student assistants. Why? We believe young talent can challenge and inspire, and add value on many different levels. When they have completed their studies, some of them join the team in a permanent role. In the course of the next weeks we’d like you to get to know them, starting this week with a very special young professional, namely COP’s very first Analyst in the company’s Graduate Program.

Louise Dournon, MSc in Industrial Engineering & Management at DTU and MSc General Engineering at Ecole Centrale de Lyon (France), Analyst on the Graduate Program

“I’m looking forward to working with other profiles, both culturally and technically.”

Louise joined our new graduate program in September. The 18-month program gives her the opportunity to rotate between three different departments as well as to work in a different COP location.

“I did a gap year in the medical industry before moving to Denmark, but I realized then I wanted to work for a company whose core activities were related to environmental sustainability, preferably in the energy industry. I also favored corporate functions over technical jobs. I was very fortunate to find all this and more in my student position as a Junior BI Analyst in COP. My primary task has been to develop and implement data management and reporting tools, like apps and databases. I’ve worked with functions throughout the whole organization like PMO, Finance, and HR. I’ve also been involved in reporting processes between projects and Executive Management. The next step is to dive deeper into the value chain and study practices from Procurement, Business Case, Market Assessment, etc.”

In her spare time, Louise enjoys exploring the city with friends, going to dance shows, and doing yoga. She knits and reads and hopes to learn Danish too.

If a graduate program at COP also appeals to you, please stay tuned on our website and LinkedIn to get all the news for our Graduate intake in 2022.

Vineyard Wind 1 Becomes the First Commercial Scale Offshore Wind Farm in the US to Achieve Financial Close

Posted on: September 20th, 2021 by Yiannis Koutsoupas No Comments

Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) is leading the development of the Vineyard Wind 1 project on behalf of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and the project owners.

Vineyard Wind will build the first commercial scale offshore wind energy project in the US, 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard. Onshore work will begin this Fall (in Barnstable), with offshore work commencing in 2022. The first power from Vineyard Wind 1 will be delivered to the grid in 2023.

There have been many milestones passed over the last several months. Financial closure, the most important milestone, means that everything is now in place to start construction. The launching of a new industry will immediately start to create jobs, combat climate change and power the economies of coastal communities.

Vineyard Wind 1 is an 800 MW project and will generate electricity for more than 400,000 homes and businesses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It will save ratepayers $1.4 billion over the first 20 years of operation and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 1.6 million tons per year.
